This page explains exactly what is and is not behind every recommendation on this site, so you can judge how much weight to give it.
What we do not do
We do not run a testing lab. We do not have force gauges, thermal cameras, or a panel of testers. Plenty of larger sites do, and where they have measured something we could not, we will say so and link to them. Any page on this site that claimed hands-on lab testing was wrong, and has been corrected.
What we actually do
- Start from the problem. Before looking at any product we establish what the muscle group needs — how deep the tissue sits, how much pressure released it in the clinical literature, whether heat helps or makes it worse.
- Read the specifications critically. Stall force, amplitude, stroke speed, heat range, battery life. We check whether the number a brand advertises is the one that matters for the muscle in question, which it often is not.
- Mine the long-term reviews. We filter verified purchases for reviews written three months or more after purchase, where motor failures, battery degradation and build problems actually surface.
- Check the returns. Consistent complaints about a specific failure mode matter far more than the average star rating.
- Say who should not buy it. Every recommendation names the person it is wrong for. A review that cannot do this is an advertisement.
How ratings are decided
Scores reflect how well a product solves the specific problem it is reviewed against — not how well it sells, and not what it pays. A device can be excellent and still score poorly here if it is the wrong tool for muscle knots.
